SEAN CHU ANNOUNCES INTENTION TO RUN AGAIN IN WARD 4
Calgary, June 20, 2017 – Ward 4 City Councillor Sean Chu announced formally today that he will seek re-election in the redrawn Ward 4.
Chu has become best known for his insistence on fiscally responsible spending and accountability, a message he will take to voters in this campaign.
“Fiscally responsible means delivering the services that constituents need in a reasonably priced and efficient manner,” said Chu. “It means distinguishing between ‘need-to-have’ and ‘want-to-have’, and making sure that Calgarians are getting valued services for their tax dollars.”
“Our taxes are going up at an unsustainable pace,” said Chu. “I have voted against every tax increase that has come before Council, because I don’t believe we have yet done enough work to find savings, and get rid of unnecessary and inefficient spending.”
Continuing to press for the Green Line LRT all the way to the northern terminus will be another key campaign plank. Chu has been a strong advocate for the Green Line throughout the planning process to date and believes the project needs to be completed as planned.
Chu will also campaign on pedestrian and traffic safety, citing several improvements made to Ward 4 during his term. Upgrading recreational facilities in the Ward is another key issue.
As a former police officer, Chu is also concerned about safety in our neighbourhoods.
“People need to feel that their homes are affordable and their neighbourhoods are safe,” said Chu. “Those are basic deliverables for the civic government, and we continue to have work to do in both areas.”
“Councillors need to focus on a safe, comfortable and affordable quality of life for constituents,” said Chu. “That is what I am committed to doing if I am re-elected.”
Sean Chu was first elected in the 2013 municipal election. He came to Canada from Taiwan in 1985 and worked as an Officer with the Calgary Police Service for 21 years. He lives in the Ward 4 community of Sandstone, and has two daughters, Jasmine and Sienna.
