4 Avenue Flyover Update

By June 11, 2025No Comments

The wait is over and the path is clear: while construction will continue through the summer, both lanes of the 4 Avenue Flyover have officially reopened to traffic during peak hours—ahead of schedule. This will keep commuters moving just in time for a busy summer.

The flyover has been reduced to a single lane since April 2024 to facilitate necessary improvements to the bridge. This $12.5 million investment will help keep the longest bridge in Calgary functional and in good condition for Calgarians to use for decades to come.

“Thanks to strong collaboration between City staff, consultants and contractors, efficient scheduling, and innovative construction m

ethods, we’re proud to have reached this milestone ahead of schedule for our fellow Calgarians,” says Max Lacroix, Project Manager of the flyover rehabilitation. “Calgarians have a busy summer ahead of them and reopening both lanes on the flyover will help ease the congestion that commuters will experience when heading downtown.”

While the major work is now behind us, finishing touches to the flyover are still underway. Commuters can expect some off-peak (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) single lane closures over the summer to fully complete the planned work to the bridge. No closures will occur during the Calgary Stampede to keep traffic moving smoothly. The site is still an active construction area, so we ask motorists to proceed with caution and respect all posted signage while crews wrap up.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and support throughout this project, and we’re glad to bridge the gap back to normal traffic flow. To learn more about the project, visit calgary.ca/4AveFlyoverRehab.
