PSA: Elections Calgary hosting information sessions for nominated candidates

Elections Calgary will host two candidate information sessions (one in-person and one virtual) about what to expect during the 2025 General Election. These sessions are intended for nominated candidates, or those seeking to be nominated, their official agents and campaign team for the offices of mayor, councillor, public and separate school board trustee.

The presentation will provide details about the election process, including:

  • voting opportunities,
  • the use of the permanent electors register,
  • acceptable ID for voters,
  • the role of scrutineers,
  • ballot counting processes,
  • unofficial and official results,
  • recount processes, and more.

Details about the sessions are below.

Session 1: Thurs., Sept. 11

Time: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Location: In-person at the Central Calgary Public Library (Patricia A Whelan Performance Hall),
800 3 St. SE, Calgary, AB

Registration: Required

Session 2: Thurs., Sept. 18

Time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon)

Location: Virtual

Registration: Required

Elections Calgary is a division of the City Clerk’s Office responsible for independently and impartially administering the Returning Officer’s accountabilities in General Elections, by-elections and votes of the electors on behalf of The City of Calgary, the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.

Sean Chu arrived in Calgary from Taiwan in 1985 speaking not a word of English, and within 7 years he was a sworn officer with the Calgary Police Service. From that point on Sean worked with the Calgary Police Service as on Officer for 21 years in a number of roles until 2013.
