Starting September 1, 2025, Calgary Transit’s Route 301 will officially become part of the MAX rapid transit network. Say hello to MAX Green.
This name change is timed with crews finishing construction on the new bus stations along what was known as the North Central Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route. Having started construction in 2024, there are eight improved bus stations along MAX Green:
- Country Hills Blvd
- 96 Ave
- Beddington Blvd.
- 78 Ave, 64 Ave, 56 Ave, 40 Ave, and 28 Ave
Along with these new stations, which include platforms and shelters, we have added a section of transit-only lanes, better turning lanes for vehicles, and safer sidewalks and crossings for pedestrians.
These upgrades are helping transit riders today by making trips more comfortable and reliable and are a significant step in growing Calgary Transit’s rapid transit network. “The update of Route 301 to MAX Green reflects the major improvements that have been completed along the north central corridor, and the continued expansion of our MAX network,” says Donna Eng, senior transit planner. “MAX Green will serve around 10,000 customers per day, with more expected, as cross-city connections are enhanced.”
In 2025, design will begin, followed by construction in the coming years, on the next phase of Max Green. Planning is currently underway to continue improving the corridor by extending bus-only lanes and updating traffic signals to help buses move more smoothly and reduce traffic delays. Construction could begin as early as 2026 near:
- North Pointe Terminal
- Country Hills Blvd
- The Harvest Hills bus trap
- McKnight Blvd
The improvements that have already been made, and those that are to come in the future, will connect more Calgarians to more destinations. These changes are important steps as Calgary continues to grow towards two million people.
As part of this plan, Route 301 will now be part of the MAX network, joining other rapid transit lines across the city. The new MAX Green route will continue to serve Calgary’s busiest transit corridor.
But we also want Calgarians to know that The City is not stopping here.
