Place your used items in good condition on your property (next to the sidewalk or curb) for others to take. This initiative gives useable items a new life while keeping them out of the landfill.

The Curbside Treasure Hunt will be held on September 6 and 7, 2025, and everyone is invited to participate.

1. Look through your home and gather any reusable items that you no longer need.

For example, here are some possible items:

  • Books, CDs, DVDs
  • Small furniture, electronics, artwork
  • Sports equipment and toys
  • Yard and gardening tools and equipment
  • Small appliances, kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans

2. Mark them with a “Free” label and place them at the curb on the designated event days.

3. Treasure hunters rejoice! Anyone can come and pick up these items for their own use – it’s like a free garage sale right at your doorstep!

  • Place items on your curb on September 6 and 7.
  • All items must be removed from public property by 5 p.m. on Sunday.

4. If it’s still on the curb, let’s keep the community tidy and donate it!

  • Any leftover items must be removed by 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 7.
  • You can donate items to local charities such as Diabetes Canada, Cerebral Palsy, Goodwill Alberta, Kidney Clothes, Calgary Drop-In Centre and WINS. Contact your preferred charity to confirm what type of donations they are accepting.
  • Find out at Calgary.ca/whatgoeswhere.

If you see unclaimed items left out after 5 p.m. Sunday, report them by:

Calling 311 or reporting online. Choose “Illegal Dumping” for items left on public property (parks, streets, alleys) as per “Community Standards Bylaw 32M2023” for untidy properties.

The City will not pick up items left at the curb.
