The City of Calgary has awarded $1 million in grant funding to 10 non-profit organizations to deliver innovative projects that increase housing stability and successful tenancies for affordable housing residents or people in housing need.

The 10 organizations with funded projects from the Home Program are; 1) Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS), 2) Closer to Home, 3) Distress Centre, 4) Highbanks Independent Living for Parenting Youth Society, 5) Miskanawah Community Services Association, 6) Momentum, 7) Siksika Off-Reserve Affordable Housing Project Limited (SORAH), 8) The SHARP Foundation, 9) Trellis Society and 10) Wood’s Homes.

The Home Program was launched in 2017 and has since funded over 100 projects that improve housing outcomes for Calgarians.

“To ensure people are housed with dignity, housing providers need robust support and resources. Council’s decision to invest in the Home Program reflects our unwavering commitment to ensuring everyone has access to safe and stable housing. This funding will help create lasting positive change for Calgarians in need of affordable housing.” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek.

The Home program is part of Home is Here, The City’s Housing Strategy and aligns with Outcome 2, to support affordable housing providers to deliver services that make a positive impact for Calgarians. Approved projects will begin implementation later in 2024 and will be completed by late 2026.

“These projects have demonstrated high responsiveness to issues impacting Calgarians in housing need, approximately half of the awarded projects are focused on housing supports for Indigenous People, Black and Racialized and equity deserving populations. Funding from the Home Program continues to stimulate impactful positive change in the housing system. From this round of funding, it is estimated that over 1,400 Calgarians living in or supported by affordable housing and service providers will receive support.” said Jeff Chase, Chief Housing Officer.
