The City of Calgary recognizes that the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic means that some customers may find it challenging to pay their bills.
The City of Calgary has options for water, waste and recycling customers to defer payments of their City-services portion of their utility bill with no penalties or interest from March 18 to June 19, 2020.
The deferred payment option is available for residential and multifamily customers, not-for profit organizations, community associations, civic partners and most small businesses, upon request.
The deferral option is available for 90 days from March 18 to June 19, 2020. At the end of the three months, outstanding amounts will be divided up and added to the remaining monthly bills so customers can pay it off over the last six bills of 2020.
Any customers who are experiencing challenges paying their bill due to the pandemic, can call ENMAX, The City’s contracted customer care and billing provider, at 310-2010. The City and ENMAX encourage customers to pay what they comfortably can during this time to avoid larger bills later. ENMAX will speak with customers to understand their needs and offer information on the payment options available. No Payment deferral is one option available to customers. Two other options are payment plans and extended payment dates.
Residential customers, and small business customers who used less than 2,500 m3 of water in 2019, will be automatically eligible for deferral. Customers that used more than 2,500 m3 in 2019 will be referred by ENMAX to The City for review and decision. A City representative will contact the customer within 3-5 days to understand the situation and consider options. This approach will ensure The City can take into consideration the customer’s circumstances, ability to pay, other supports available like federal and provincial funding and work toward mutually agreeable payment terms that minimizes impacts for all ratepayers.
