The City of Calgary is pleased to announce Les Tochor as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and General Manager for the Corporate Financial and Planning Services (CPFS) department.
As CFO, Tochor will oversee all finance functions of the organization and provide overall long-term strategy, policy and advisory support. As General Manager of the CPFS department, he will oversee all the work that is done to plan, monitor and improve corporate sustainability, value and performance through business units such as Assessment & Tax, Supply Management, Finance and Corporate Planning & Performance.
“Mr. Tochor brings over 25 years of leadership and experience in the public-sector and a deep level of expertise and strong background in finance and strategic planning to the CFO role,” says Chief Administrative Officer David Duckworth. “I’m confident that his expertise and vision will drive our organization’s financial strategy forward and am excited to have him continue leading our organization and serving Calgarians as our new CFO.”
The search and recruitment process, led by executive search firm Leaders International, brought in a deep pool of highly qualified candidates from across Canada, making the selection process highly competitive. Members of the recruitment panel also included Chief Operating Officer Stuart Dalgleish, City Solicitor and General Manager of Law, Legislative Service and Security, Jill Floen, Human Resources and a public member of the Audit Committee.
In October 2024, Tochor stepped into the Acting CFO role, where he has been instrumental in strengthening and guiding The City’s service plans and budget process and long-term financial goals. Prior to the acting role, Tochor served as the City Treasurer and Director of Finance (2020 – 2023) and City Treasurer and Deputy Chief Financial Officer (2023 – 2024).
