North Hill LAP Update

The communities of TGCA and Winston Heights-Mountview are part of the North Hill Local Area Plan, and for those in these communities the city will be updating that 2021 plan to align with the changes of re-zoning that was approved by Council in April of 2024 by a vote of 9-6.

For those that want to read more click the link. I did not support this plan, and voted against the blanket re-zoning. However, I still wanted to share this as these two communities of Ward 4 communities are part of this LAP.

In May 2024, Council voted to approve citywide rezoning amendments to allow for single, semi-detached, townhomes and rowhouses in communities across Calgary. Approved local area plans will be updated to align with this decision (see Rezoning for Housing for more information). With this Council-approved rezoning, the North Hill Communities Local Area Plan will be updated to align.

As part of Rezoning for Housing, Council directed Administration to re-engage in approved LAP areas – our focus will be on community improvements found in Chapter 3/Appendix A.

Additionally, In September 2023, Home is Here – The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy was approved by Council. Council directed Administration to remove the Single-Detached Special Policy Area from the Guide for Local Area Planning immediately and to remove the Single-Detached Special Policy Area from North Hill Communities LAP. Updates to the Guide were completed in 2023.
