Calgary Transit is expanding its On Demand transit service into four new zones. This expansion is a way to introduce public transportation into communities that don’t yet have the ridership for regular, fixed route bus service. The areas that will see this new On Demand service are:
· Ambleton in the northwest (will be added to existing Carrington/Livingston On Demand service)

· Glacier Ridge and Sage Hill in the northwest

· Ricardo Ranch, Seton, and Rangeview in the southeast

An additional On Demand zone at the University of Calgary’s Spy Hill campus will be launched August 26, closer to the start of the fall semester.
“After two successful pilots of On Demand, we are pleased to extend this service in new areas,” says Sharon Fleming, Director of Calgary Transit. “We know how important transit is for Calgarians, and that providing service early in growing communities is a great way to build long-term ridership.”
With the support of Council, this expansion was developed to serve communities that don’t currently have convenient access to transit service.
“I’m pleased The City is taking a proactive approach to bringing transit on-demand and services to new communities at their infancy,” says Ward 2 Councillor Wyness. “Our Ward 2 office has advocated for more transit options in the fast-growing communities to help keep costs of living down, and support those who cannot or choose not to drive. While this is a positive step, the increased density and population of Ward 2 is quickly outgrowing existing service levels, and we will keep pushing for equitable transit services across Calgary.”
On Demand service allows customers to book a trip, as needed, between their community and nearby amenities or transit hubs, where they can connect with the larger transit network. Trips are booked through an easy-to-use app, “On Demand Calgary Transit,” that creates routes as they’re booked, ensuring customers can get where they need to go quickly.
