Parks Foundation is pleased to announce it is increasing community grant funding this year as part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to enriching Calgary’s sport, park, and playground initiatives.
There will be substantial increases in the maximum grant amounts for two of its programs: the Amateur Sport Grant Program (increasing from $75,000 to $125,000) and the Building Communities Grant Program (increasing from $30,000 to $50,000). Effective for the next grant intake on October 1, 2024, these grant increases will provide much needed support to communities championing park, sport, and playground projects across Calgary.
Amateur Sport Grant Program
Effective October 1, 2024, the maximum grant amount for the Amateur Sport Grant Program will increase to $125,000. This program promotes sport development and enhances sport participation for Calgarians of all ages by supporting capital projects that provide significant benefit to the continuation and enrichment of sport in our community. Eligible organizations based in Calgary can apply for grants to fund new sport facilities, expand or improve existing facilities, or purchase sport equipment.
Building Communities Grant Program
Effective October 1, 2024, the Building Communities Grant Program will award grants of up to $50,000. This program supports a variety of community-led park and playground initiatives, helping to build vibrant and inclusive community spaces. In addition to funding, Parks Foundation provides ongoing support throughout the duration of each project, from project planning to volunteer management.
Impact and Future Applications
“We believe when we build better parks and recreation spaces, we are building a better city,” says Sheila Taylor, CEO, Parks Foundation. “With these grants, we recognize the impact that developing playgrounds, parks, and sport spaces in our communities has on enhancing the lives of Calgarians.”
Organizations interested in applying for these grants should prepare their proposals ahead of the October 1, 2024 intake. Detailed information about the application process, eligibility criteria, and required documentation is available at Parks Foundation Programs.
