Rain Barrel Program 2025

By June 30, 2025No Comments

Due to strong participation from Calgarians, The City is expanding its popular rain barrel rebate program by covering up to 5,000 total rebates, up from the original 3,000, making it easier and more affordable for Calgarians to conserve water in their yards. With more rain in the forecast later this week, now is a great time for Calgarians to take advantage of the expanded rebate program.

“It’s never too late to add a rain barrel to your property and responsibly use what Mother Nature provides,” says Nicole Newton, Manager, Natural Environment and Adaptation with The City of Calgary. “You can use what you collect to water your plants, garden and trees, especially during hot and dry periods.”

The City of Calgary launched the rain barrel rebate program this spring. The program offers a $50 rebate on up to three rain barrels, up from the previous maximum of two, purchased from any vendor, as long as the barrels were bought after March 31, 2025.

Calgarians can feel good knowing they are doing their part to make the most of every drop of rainwater available. Newton notes that it is amazing how quickly a rain barrel fills up when it showers. With rain in the forecast for later in the week, it is a great time to get one.

Calgary relies on two small rivers for its water supply, and our region is expecting hot, dry weather in the coming months. Making the most of the rainwater we receive is an important step every Calgarian homeowner can take to conserve this precious resource.

Together, we can make every drop count in our yards by using water wisely.
