Mayor Jyoti Gondek is asking Calgarians to nominate outstanding individuals and organizations for the 2025 Calgary Awards.

“The Calgary Awards provide us with an opportunity to recognize Calgarians whose unwavering dedication and integrity make our city incredible,” says Mayor Gondek. “Let’s come together to honour these remarkable individuals and organizations with a Calgary Award.”

The Calgary Awards pay tribute to Calgarians in five categories:

· Accessibility

· The Environment

· International Achievement

· The W.O. Mitchell Book Prize

· Community Achievement:

o Grant MacEwan Lifetime Achievement

o Calgarian of the Year

o Arts

o Community Advocate – Individual

o Community Advocate – Organization

o Education

o Heritage

o Social Impact – Business

o Youth

The nomination period ends Jan. 26, and recipients will be announced in June 2025.

Sean Chu

Sean Chu arrived in Calgary from Taiwan in 1985 speaking not a word of English, and within 7 years he was a sworn officer with the Calgary Police Service. From that point on Sean worked with the Calgary Police Service as on Officer for 21 years in a number of roles until 2013.
