Snow and Bus Route Changes

By November 25, 2024No Comments

Snow detours: Starting at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, we’ll be activating all snow detour routes. These routes help us steer clear of places where buses often get stuck, while maintaining coverage and allowing us to keep buses moving.

“Calgary Transit takes many factors into account when planning and implementing snow detours, including where and how often buses get stuck, feedback from customers and insights from our staff,” says Jenn Boyer, Transit Relations Specialist, Calgary Transit.

We have recently reviewed all snow detours and made changes to several detour routes. Please check calgarytransit.com/snowdetours to see of your route has a snow detour or if the detour has changed.

In addition, if it isn’t safe to do so, buses won’t stop on hills to pick up or drop off customers. Bus operators may choose to stop at the top or bottom of the hill instead to avoid unsafe conditions and further service disruptions.

We understand that some parts of the city might not be as heavily affected by snow, but activating all snow detours in advance will make it easier for you to plan your trip and minimize confusion during snowy weather. We anticipate that the snow detour will stay in place until the start of service Monday, Nov. 25 morning.

Snow clearing at stations: Dedicated crews are hard at work to clear CTrain and MAX platforms, sidewalks, stairs, bus loops, Transitways and parking lots. Our priority is to provide safe and accessible transit facilities for all customers, and we’ll keep at it throughout the snow event.

We encourage all Calgary Transit customers to plan ahead, give yourself extra travel time, and stay connected with us through our communication channels. Thank you for your patience as we navigate snowy conditions together!
