The Calgary Police are warning Calgarians of an emerging scam after we have received several reports of victims receiving text messages to pay outstanding parking and photo radar fines in recent weeks.

There have been more than 25 reports of Calgarians receiving text messages stating they are required to pay overdue tickets, encouraging them to click a link to complete payment.

Calgarians are warned that The City of Calgary and the Government of Alberta will not send text messages to request payment for fines. Photo radar tickets and parking tickets are mailed to the registered owner of a vehicle and subsequent communication involving overdue fines will also be sent via mail.

·         If you receive an unsolicited text message with a link attached, do not click the link

·         Do not provide any payment or personal information through the text message

·         Delete the text message immediately and do not engage
