CALGARY – Today, The City of Calgary has reached a milestone making significant progress repairing the original feeder main break near 16 Avenue N.W. and Home Road.
We have concluded the inspection on the remaining 300 metres of pipe and preliminary results indicate no new hotspots have been indentified. Work is underway developing an inspection plan for the remainder of the network. More details will be shared as they become available.

We are grateful to San Diego County Water Authority for sending us a segment of pipe for our feeder main. Repairing the damaged sections remains our top priority. Initial inspections and site prep work are already underway and construction work on the additional areas identified at risk will start tomorrow (Monday, June 17). Crews will continue working 24 hours a day work but will work to mitigate noise throughout the night for area residents.
ROADS AND MOBILITY
Eastbound lanes of 16 Avenue N.W. where the initial break happened are reopening to traffic today.
From 16 AV NW from 49 ST NW to Home Road will have the west bound lanes closed. East bound lanes will be opened into a two-way single lane traffic setup.
16 AV NW will be closed in both directions from 46 ST NW and 45 ST NW
16 AV NW will be closed in both directions from 43 ST NW to BOWNESS RD NW
East/West traffic will be detoured onto Bowness Rd. Expect delays.
BYLAW AND ENFORCEMENT
To date we have received 6,214 calls to 311 about this emergency. We encourage Calgarians to use the 311 app or Calgary.ca to make your service requests.
We continue following up on calls to 311 for water misuse. Since the event began, we have received 1,892 calls, the majority of those have been resolved with 105 cases remaining open.
A fire ban remains in effect for the City of Calgary. We’ve received 334 calls with 19 cases still open.
