We are pleased to announce that 16 Avenue has now re-opened to vehicle traffic, however still requires localized lane closures near 43 Street N.W. to accommodate bringing the Bearspaw South Feeder Main back into service late next week.
Please continue to reduce your water use so we can safely return our Bearspaw South Feeder Main to service and lift water restrictions at some point next weekend.
Yesterday’s water use moved back down into the green or sustainable zone at 471 million litres.
Restoring water service involves three key steps: filling the pipe, testing and stabilizing the distribution system that moves water around the city. Each step takes some time to complete before we can fully return to service to normal.
Construction progress
On the repair and construction side, we continue to make great progress.
Beginning today, crews will be moving to daytime shifts which will now eliminate overnight noise for the residents along 33rd Avenue.
At Sites 1-4 which are on 33rd Avenue and Shouldice Park, as previously shared, Site 4 at Shouldice Park is complete.
We are preparing for asphalt paving at Site 1 for early this week.
Concrete curb and gutter work continues to be underway at Sites 2 and 3 and this work will continue on Monday.
We anticipate reopening 33 Avenue east of 83 Street N.W. by Tuesday.
No parking signs along 34 Avenue east of 83 Street N.W. have been removed, opening additional access for resident parking.
At Site 5, which is on 33rd Avenue at 86 Street, two segments have been backfilled, and form removal, backfilling and paving will take place early this week at the final segment.
We anticipate reopening 33 Avenue from 83 Street to 87 Street N.W. this week.
At Sites 6 to 8 on 16th Avenue, paving activities have been completed and crews removed construction detours today.
While 16 Avenue has now re-opened to vehicle traffic, we still require localized lane closures near 43 Street N.W. to accommodate bringing the feeder main back into service and to complete curb and gutter work.
We will continue to connect with those directly impacted by the construction to share our progress, and to discuss plans to reinstate sidewalks, driveways and landscaping that have been impacted by the repair work.
