Council received this email from Enmax, and thought it was worth a share given the good news this means for the three local businesses that will be awarded the funds, but also the positive impacts it has on the community. Every year, in partnership with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, the ENMAX Amplifier Fund provides a grant of $25,000 to a local business to help accelerate its investment in innovation, technology, and leadership. Applicants must demonstrate that they are currently in operation as a small business, have between 10-100 employees, demonstrate industry leadership and innovation, have a positive impact in the Calgary Community, and have a well-defined growth plan for 1, 3, and 5 years. Past recipients include:

  • North Water, a local Calgary business, owned and operated by two immigrant women that proudly call Canada home. North Water set out to help curb plastic waste by offering an alternative to the largest plastic polluter: plastic water bottles. North Water is Canada’s Rocky Mountain Spring water bottled in aluminum, an infinitely recyclable material. Each bottle is crafted for 100% recyclability and harm-free hydration. North Water is also a partner with Water First, a charity that helps bring access to clean drinking water for First Nations.
  • BRITT RADIUS is as a second-generation family business that is female-owned, led and operated. BRITT RADIUS is an industry-leading consulting firm that specializes in working with all stakeholders seeking compliance and acceptance of proposed development projects impacting people and land. Since its establishment in 1986, the company and its leaders have received awards in recognition of their work and become sought-after leaders and navigators, finding solutions to the risks related to land access, regulatory compliance, talent resourcing and stakeholder engagement.
  • FulcrumAir is an industry-leading aerial robotics and commercial drone manufacturing and servicing firm. With over 15,000 hours of design and engineering research, FulcrumAir has developed two of the world’s leading industrial unmanned aerial vehicles – the E2500 and E7500. They have also developed an innovative robotic machine that installs bird flight diverters, reducing avian mortality in the powerline industry, called the LineFly.
Sean Chu

Sean Chu arrived in Calgary from Taiwan in 1985 speaking not a word of English, and within 7 years he was a sworn officer with the Calgary Police Service. From that point on Sean worked with the Calgary Police Service as on Officer for 21 years in a number of roles until 2013.
