Ten years ago today, the City saw its worst flooding since 1932. Over 80,000 people were evacuated from 26 communities, and over $2B in damages occurred. But we also saw our City come together. Tens of thousands of residents came out in their boots and grabbed a shovel, and helped families rebuild. It was a time many who saw their homes flood wish to forget, but it also is one we should remember when we rallied as a city, and neighbours helped neighbours. Since then, there has been much work on flood mitigation, and with the Springbank reservoir under construction and scheduled for a 2025 completion, our city will be better prepared.
