Calgarians are getting an exclusive first look at the new concepts for the future design of RiverWalk West – Calgary’s newest RiverWalk pathway.
The five finalists for the Riverwalk West design competition have been announced and their design concepts will be on display at Contemporary Calgary’s Free First Thursday on Oct. 5 from 5-8 p.m. This is your chance to see the promenade designs in person and chat with the RiverWalk West project team. The winning design will be selected by jury and announced in early November 2023.
Our city’s incredible pathway system is a favourite among locals and tourists, connecting users to 700 kilometres of scenic pathways. The RiverWalk West project presents an opportunity to create a unique and continuous public promenade along the Bow River from East Village to the west end of downtown past 14 Street S.W. Building upon the success of the previous stages of the Calgary’s Rvierwalk, this project aims to create a vibrant, high quality riverfront destination, with park and pathway amenities that connect communities and people to nature and Calgary’s downtown.
The design teams were provided the results from the public engagement collected in July 2023, and they were also encouraged to consider the site’s historical, ecological and cultural aspects when developing the proposed designs for the space.
