With all of Alberta on water restrictions, and everyone wanting to clean up their yards and start planting, it would be good to look at ways that you can do this but cut down on water use. This can be done by planting water hardy perennials, native flowers, and trees and shrubs that help keep water from evaporation in the hot sun.

The city has some good tips and pointers for you to use. Everything we do, multiplied by the 1.4 million of us adds up. Your local greenhouse will have people that can direct you what to plant, and what will work best for your area.

How you design your garden is important, for native plants, full sun, partial, and shade you can design it to maximize water retention, but also think about the savings each year by planting perennials and shrubs that need little maintenance.

Happy gardening!
